  • ANTS in my scanner > a five years time-lapse!

ANTS in my scanner > a five years time-lapse!

“I installed an ant colony inside my scanner five years ago. I scanned the nest each week…”

    >This short film is an exploration of the aesthetic of life and degradation.

Five years ago, I installed an ant colony inside my old scanner that allowed me to scan in high definition this ever evolving microcosm (animal, vegetable and mineral). The resulting clip is a close-up examination of how these tiny beings live in this unique ant farm. I observed how decay and corrosion slowly but surely invaded the internal organs of the scanner. Nature gradually takes hold of this completely synthetic environment.
The ants are still alive : the process will continue…

  • How to increase with a yarn over (yo)

How to increase with a yarn over (yo)

In this DROPS video we show how you can increase with a yarn over (yo). This is an increase that creates a decorative hole.

We show the increase 2 times in the video. Halfway through the video we have turned the work and show you how to work the yo in front or back loop depending if you prefer a larger or smaller hole. When working the back loop the stitch becomes twisted and this way the hole becomes a bit smaller.

    SKYGLOWPROJECT.COM: KAIBAB ELEGY

Millions of visitors a year come to Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park, one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the most visited national park in the western United States. However, on extremely rare days when cold air is trapped in the canyon and topped by a layer of warm air, which in combination with moisture and condensation, form the phenomenon referred to as the full cloud inversion. In what resembles something between ocean waves and fast clouds, Grand Canyon is completely obscured by fog, making the visitors feel as if they are walking on clouds.

This video was filmed as part of SKYGLOW (www.skyglowproject.com), an ongoing crowdfunded quest to explore the effects and dangers of urban light pollution in contrast with some of the most incredible dark sky areas in North America. This project is being produced in collaboration with International Dark-Sky Association (darksky.org), a non-profit fighting for the preservation of night skies around the globe.

The film was shot on Canon 5DSR & 5DIII cameras & lenses sponsored by Canon USA, aided by Alpine Labs’ Michron & Pulse, powered by Paul C. Buff Vagabond Mini. LRTimelapse was used to process some of the shots. Adobe Lightroom and Premiere used for editing and processing.

Timelapse artists and filmmakers Gavin Heffernan and Harun Mehmedinović are proud to introduce WWW.SKYGLOWPROJECT.COM, a 192-page hardcover photobook and timelapse video series exploring North America’s remaining magnificent night skies and the increasing impact of light pollution on our highly fragile environment.

A blend of images, stories, essays, and anecdotal captions, SKYGLOW explores the history and mythology of celestial observation and the proliferation of electrical outdoor lighting that spurred the rise of the phenomena known as “light pollution,” a grave threat not only to our incredible starscapes but also to the very ecosystem itself.

After a highly publicized Kickstarter campaign that ended as the fourth-most earning Photobook campaign ever, Harun and Gavin traveled over 150,000 miles and logged more than 3,000,000 photos on their grueling three-year quest. From incredible locations like the active Kīlauea volcano in Hawaii to Alberta’s majestic Northern Lights, SKYGLOW takes viewers on a visual journey through time, exploring our civilization’s evolving relationship with light and the night sky through the ages.

See how the ancient Puebloan archaeoastronomy sites of our native elders have now been replaced with the blinding “artificial day” of over-lit modern metropolises, and learn about the “Dark Sky Movement” fighting to reclaim the pristine darkness the Earth had enjoyed for billions of years. The importance of America’s threatened National Parks is also highlighted in a section of stunning landscapes from numerous parks, including Shenandoah, Yosemite, Acadia, Death Valley, Yellowstone and many more.

Completed in collaboration with the International Dark Sky Association (IDA), SKYGLOW also explores the numerous towns and sites that IDA has identified as official “Dark-Sky” Communities, Cities, Parks, Reserves and Sanctuaries.

  • How to cast on new stitches at side of work

How to cast on new stitches at side of work

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on new stitches at the side of your work.

We show two techniques of casting on new stitches e.g. when we are knitting a front piece and sleeves in one, and cast on new sts each side for the sleeves. First we cast on with loops, which is the easiest. It creates a loose edge which is ok if it will be seamed afterward like a sleeve seam. The next method is cable cast on also called knitted cast on, which is a great way when you want a firm nice edge.

  • Katy Perry Uncensored Raw Talent

    Katy Perry Uncensored Raw Talent

Katy Perry’s first tour as an artist in 2001. I was very fortunate to meet and hangout with this genuine talent in the beginning of her career.
The other day I was cleaning out some old footage in my office and found 90 minutes of raw footage I had totally forgot about. Funny how she spent so much time messing with her hair…. In the present day her hair changes color and style in every photo shoot, music video and performance…. I think Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman. Enjoy.

In my life I have been fortunate to have explored fascinating places around the world. There is one particular city though, that keeps giving me new emotions every day. It is Roma (or Rome).
Its variety of architectures that stands clearly apart from other “megacities”, Its unparalleled history legacy and Its intimate and quieter sides make Rome a city that does get into your bloodstream.

I have dedicated months filming everyday’s moment to describe a day in Rome through a roman’s eyes. This short film is the result. Let me indulge you for a few minutes.

    Seyit UYGUR { Ebru Artist }

Thank y’all so much for the likes, comments and the follows. I am really humbled.

My parents perform this art (Ebru in Turkish, Paper Marbling in English) and the footage was shot for a promo piece (https://vimeo.com/22325846) I was working on back then and my dad asked me to put a video together for him. This is what came out of that.

For those who is wondering how it’s done I’d recommend googling “Paper Marbling” there is plenty of info out there.

The song is “Charlotte Mittnacht” by DeVotchka
