This could unlock 24/7 power anywhere in the world! Most solar panels absorb sunlight to produce energy, but these solar panels only work in the dark! They capture infrared radiation from the Earth at night—turning the heat escaping into space back into electricity.
Projects like this one inspire us to believe that the world is getting better, not worse—and we need that optimism and ambition because I truly believe we’re in the coolest era ever for technology and at a pivotal moment 🙂
Getting to work with TED on this piece was the honor of a lifetime. TED Talks have soundtracked my life since middle school, unlocking new curiosities and ideas that have lit up my life!! They’ve been a gateway to learning from some of the smartest people: people who relentlessly work to build a better future through technology. I’m still freaking out!
