We usually picture solar as rigid panels bolted onto rooftops. But organic photovoltaic films are changing that idea. These ultra-thin solar films can be applied almost like stickers to flat or curved surfaces.
Less than 2 mm thick and extremely lightweight, they can be installed on roofs, façades, or curved structures without heavy frames or drilling. This makes solar integration possible in places where traditional panels are difficult to install.
Flexible photovoltaic technology could expand building-integrated solar and portable energy systems. But an engineering question remains: is the real challenge improving efficiency per square meter, or ensuring long-term durability of such thin films?
