Designed for all audiences, moviegoers and music lovers, the exhibition “Musique et cinéma, le mariage du siècle ?” is an opportunity to dive into the making of major films that changed the history of cinema, enhancing the role of music in their development.

For this exhibition, we’ve designed a video installation and three interactive modules offering visitors a sensible and pedagogical approach of music in cinema.

LACRIMOSA – was established in November 1990 as an alternative band featuring rock music with poetrical lyrics, mixed with classical influences. Since over 20 years now the band releases their music through their own record label HALL OF SERMON. LACRIMOSA became a pioneer for several music styles, such as German Alternative and Symphonic-Metal!

Lacrimosa is a gothic duo led by German Tilo Wolff, the main composer, and Finnish Anne Nurmi, currently based in Switzerland, but originally from Germany. Originally counted among the bands of the Neue Deutsche Todeskunst genre, Lacrimosa have developed their style more towards powerful metal, but Gothic elements still remain.

Their current musical style mixes gothic rock and heavy metal along with violin, trumpet and more classical instruments, although their musical development throughout the years has also led to changes in instrumentation. Lacrimosa’s lyrics are written almost exclusively in German, although since the 1995 album Inferno every album has featured one or two songs in English, generally written by Anne Nurmi. Finnish has also appeared in the spoken intro to two songs (“Schakal” on Inferno and “The Turning Point” on Elodia) and on a bonus track in a limited edition release of Fassade called Vankina. Their lyrics are mainly about loneliness, sadness, darkness, despair and love.

Facing a proposal by the Brazilian government to build a large dam complex on the Tapajós River that would submerge their vast territories, which span one million hectares of primary rainforest, the Munduruku of the Brazilian Amazon formed a resistance movement called Ipereg Ayu. Ipereg Ayu, in local language, means “I am strong, I know how to protect myself”. Designed to safeguard the Amazon rainforest and protect the rights of the Munduruku people, the movement has helped to demarcate traditional territories, protect indigenous lands from illegal logging and mining, and create platforms for the Munduruku people to exchange experiences, knowledge, and best practices. The focus on territorial defense and resistance to destructive projects has not only empowered a broad segment of the Munduruku’s 13,000 people, but also encouraged greater organization among the region’s communities to stand as one against common threats and in favor of sustainable, culturally appropriate development. In addition to successfully demarcating the Sawré Muybu territory, which created a political imperative for the Brazilian government to permanently protect Munduruku lands, the movement was the driving force behind a groundbreaking protocol on the right to free, prior, and informed consent.

In mid december 2009, four guys set out on a motorcycle adventure around east/central Africa.

During the trip we had little intention of creating a movie out of our experience, we simply carried a small (1st generation) Flip camera with us and documented moments that we thought we would like to look back on. When it was all said and done, we had probably 20 hours of small clips from the trip- most of them random, shaky and unusable… but there was some gold in there! We decided that this was an adventure worthy of sharing with the rest of the world, so we took it upon ourselves to sort through the amateur clips and arrange them (on iMovie ’07) into a sensical and chronological documentary of this life changing experience.

It took one year to finish… and on the eve of our one year trip anniversary, we are finally presenting it to the world. It may not be the most polished piece, but it does have heart…
